Job Summary:

The Architecture program, within the Department of Art + Architecture at the University of San Francisco, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2023, contingent upon funding approval.
This position seeks candidates with a background in architectural design, and advanced knowledge in the history, theory, and criticism of architecture. Candidates may also have experience with professional practice, and familiarity with building construction. Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate architectural design courses at all levels, from introductory to advanced. In addition, teaching may include courses in architectural history, architectural theory, materials and methods, community engaged learning, and research theses. Ideal candidates should be able to connect architectural design practice to issues of political, environmental, and community justice.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach 2-3 courses a semester, depending on unit count (2- and 4-unit courses, to a total of 18 units per academic year), from Architectural Design Studios, Architectonics, History of Architecture, Architectural Theory, and Honors Thesis, among others. In addition to teaching and course development, successful candidates will serve as an advisor to Architecture majors and minors, engage in service to the department and college, and maintain an active research program that engages students when possible.

 

Minimum Qualifications : Candidates must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in architecture or related fields (city, planning, landscape architecture, urban design). Experience of architectural design practice, or practice in related fields is also welcomed. A strong record of teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco are required. The successful candidate must be able to offer their reflections on equity, and strategies for success in engaging with BIPOC and first-generation college students.

  • evidence of teaching ability (e.g., sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, student work);

  • a diversity statement, which may include your thoughts and/or experiences concerning equitable education for underserved and marginalized communities, your commitment to or experience with broadening participation and accessibility in the field, and/or experience and success in engaging with BIPOC and first-generation students; 

  • and three letters of recommendation (to be requested upon submission of application).
