| Organizational Unit Overview | The College of Education is housed at East Carolina University. The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions (IDP) is one of 6 instructional departments within the College of Education. IDP houses graduate program and certificate areas in Counselor Education, Adult Education, and Library Science. |
| Job Duties | The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking one (1) full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty member in Library Science. The position is at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor and begins August 2023. The MLS program at East Carolina University has three master’s degree concentrations: academic librarianship, public librarianship, and school librarianship. The teaching mode is primarily asynchronous online. The candidate for the Assistant/Associate Professor position will teach graduate courses in a fully online format and will serve in additional, value-added capacities to the department through recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts. The successful candidate will conduct research, teach, and advise students in our ALA-accredited master’s degree program. Program, department, college, university, and professional service is also expected. Contingent upon availability of funding. |
| Minimum Education/Experience | A doctoral degree in library, information sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates must have the ability to teach two or more of the core courses (foundations, reference, technology, administration & management, research literacy, organization of information, collection development). Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they will support students in the public librarianship concentration through their research or teaching; as well as a documented record or ability to build a record of research and scholarship, and experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats. Candidates with Ph.D. or Ed.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor upon initial appointment. ABD candidates will be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to your first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

| Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | In addition to the required qualifications, the following experiences, skills, and training/education are preferred: A master’s degree accredited by the American Library Association; Research and teaching interests in areas that complement any of the program’s areas of expertise; Experience teaching courses at the graduate level; Experience teaching online courses. Specialized knowledge of library management and budgeting, public librarianship, rural librarianship, organization of information, or technologies for library services is especially welcome. Those with expertise and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience and interest in public librarianship are especially encouraged to apply. |
