Position Description:

The McGill University School of Social Work invites applications for a full‐time tenure‐track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of practice with individuals, families, and groups, with an expected start date on August 1st 2023. The School is actively seeking applications from racialized persons/visible minorities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity who reflect the communities we serve.

The School of Social Work includes BSW and MSW programs accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) giving direct access to membership in the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ). The School’s MScA program prepares graduate students for licensure in both Psychotherapy and Couple and Family Therapy. 

This appointment forms part of the academic renewal of the School of Social Work which includes ten new faculty appointments over the past seven years, including two Canada Research Chairs; the development of Canada’s first Masters in Couple and Family Therapy within a School of Social Work; an expanded doctoral program; a generalist BSW curriculum; and an MSW offering three specialist streams (children and families, health and social care, and international and community development).  The School is the home of the Centre for Research on Children and Families (CRCF), the CREGES-McGill Social Gerontology Centre, and Global Child McGill. Job Duties:

Primary academic duties consist of teaching, research and other scholarly and professional activities, and service contributions to the University and scholarly communities. With regard to teaching, the successful hire will be required to participate in classroom instruction and student supervision within the guidelines of the School of Social Work and in accordance with the University’s requirements as described in Appendix A of the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Tenure Track and Tenured Academic Staff (http://www.mcgill.ca/secretariat/policies/index/e-g/ ).

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in social work or a related field, a BSW or an MSW and at least three years of direct practice experience. Eligibility for OTSTCFQ membership and fluency in French are assets.
