JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University’s Office of General Counsel seeks to hire an Assistant General Counsel who will work as a generalist in higher education law. The successful candidate will be asked to support the full range of issues handled by the Office and all of the lawyers in the Office. 

Although hired as a generalist, over time the successful candidate will be expected to focus on several specific subject matter areas, depending on the needs of the Office and the interests of the candidate. 

Education and experience:

Requires a J.D. or L.L.B., preferably from an ABA-accredited law school, and typically three years’ of relevant experience, preferably at a college or university.  The successful candidate should have a demonstrated interest in a career in higher education law.

Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or be eligible for prompt admission. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism, possess superior communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients, and have a strong interest in working in the Penn State Office of the General Counsel.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The ASR is available for review here .
