Job Summary The Assistant Director of Study Abroad takes a lead role in ensuring UTA students receive comprehensive advising and support before, during, and after the experience abroad. The Assistant Director supports the office’s strategic mission to increase international opportunities for students and works closely with the Director to facilitate, implement, and monitor all UTA Study Abroad programs (Affiliated, Exchange, and Faculty-Led) and related services. In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for performing the Director’s duties and responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Takes a lead role in advising for all UTA Study Abroad programs and scholarship opportunities as well as supervising Study Abroad Advisors, including assigning and overseeing projects
  • Ultimately responsible for management of application process, including making acceptance decisions for exchange programs, approving applications for affiliated programs, and organizing conduct checks for all applicants.
  • Oversees incoming exchange students, including communicating with partner institutions during nomination and application process, ensuring reciprocal balance of students is maintained, and coordinating with UTA departments as appropriate
  • Takes a lead role in training new Study Abroad Advisors and student workers.
  • Serves as liaison with units across campus in matters related to Study Abroad students, including course approval and enrollment, transcript processing, and preparing program budgets
  • Attends professional meetings, responds to requests for information, researches study abroad best practices and confers with colleagues about changes and updates to policies related to students studying abroad
  • Assists the Director with the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the office, including risk management, data collection and reporting, and assessment
  • Performs other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • 2 years of working experience in a Study Abroad office. Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with TerraDotta software.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Publisher, or other desktop publishing software. Experience presenting information before groups small and large.
  • Creative and self-directed with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
