Apply then for this job at the department Environment and Health at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam!

Location: AMSTERDAM
FTE: 0.8 – 1

Job description

The health of all organisms – including humans – is directly affected by the environment we live in. This includes lifestyle choices, but also exposure to pollutants and use of therapeutic drugs. Recent years, it has become increasingly clear that exposures to pollutants and drugs during early life can affect one’s health and may lead to diseases later in life.

As researcher, you will initiate and perform high-quality research, culminating in publications and grant acquisitions. You investigate the association between chemical exposures, especially during early life stages, and health outcomes in humans. Your research should be closely connected to, strengthen or complement the research theme “Linking life-style factors to human health indices” within the Environmental Health and Toxicology section of the department. You will contribute to the research of assistant professors, PhD candidates, Master students, and Bachelor students.

As teacher, you will coordinate and teach in courses within the Health and Life Sciences Bachelor program. You’ll be involved in (re)designing courses within this and other BSc/MSc programs for various life sciences programs within the Faculty of Science. We encourage that you continuously improve your courses, for example by implementing novel teaching methods.

Requirements

  • You have a PhD and worked for several years as assistant professor in the field of human health sciences or a closely related field with a track record of internationally, peer-reviewed publications
  • You have vast expertise in (developmental) biology, epigenetics and epidemiology
  • You have experience in writing research grant proposals, which is substantiated with successful acquisition of external funds
  • You have a basic qualification in teaching for Dutch universities (‘BKO’), or be willing to acquire this qualification after appointment
  • You are comfortable with teaching in the Dutch language or be able to do so within reasonable time.
  • You have a well-expressed personal vision on teaching and research line
  • You have a proven capacity to motivate and supervise academic researchers as well as students at BSc/MSc/PhD level
  • You have excellent social skills, and are an excellent team builder and collaborator

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €4,814 (scale 12) and a maximum €6,702 (scale 13), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

We offer a tenure track position at the level of assistant/associate professor, dependent on your expertise, initially for the duration of 18 months.
