16 Fully Funded PhD Fellowships in Neuroscience

Job Details

Application deadline: August 10 2026, 4:00 PM (CEST)

Neuroscience Academy Denmark (NAD) invites exceptional and highly motivated candidates to apply for 16 fully funded neuroscience PhD fellowships. NAD is a national collaboration initiative uniting the strong neuroscience environments at Aalborg University, University of Southern Denmark, University of Copenhagen, and Aarhus University, with more than 200 affiliated laboratories in Denmark. The programme also includes active participation from neuroscience groups based at the university hospitals around Denmark as well as the Technical University of Denmark.

The NAD Fellowship programme spans four years: a pre-PhD year followed by three years of PhD research.

Programme highlights

  • Three lab rotations in neuroscience labs in Denmark during the pre-PhD year
  • Specialised courses and workshops to strengthen your scientific foundation
  • Retreats and networking events across Denmark’s neuroscience community
  • The opportunity to design your own PhD project in close collaboration with your supervisor(s)
  • Three years of focused PhD research in a laboratory aligned with your scientific interests

Beyond formal qualifications, we are looking for candidates who are intellectually curious, self-driven, and collaborative. Candidates with investigative mindsets thriving in diverse research environments and motivated to design and lead their own PhD projects. Strong written and spoken English is essential, as is the ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.

Eligibility and requirements

You are eligible to apply for an NAD fellowship if you have a documented background in neuroscience. You must hold an MD or an MSc in a relevant field, e.g., neuroscience, biomedicine, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, human physiology/biology, computer science and can demonstrate genuine, documented engagement with neuroscience through coursework, research, or lab experience.

To enter the NAD Programme, you must also meet the formal requirements for enrolment as a PhD student at one of the Health Graduate Schools at the participating Danish universities. This means that at the time of application, you must hold:

  • a Danish Master’s degree of 120 ECTS, or
  • an international master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree.

For applicants with an international MSc degree, NAD may send your diploma to the Danish Ministry of Education and Research for evaluation. If your degree is not deemed equivalent, we will have to give an administrative rejection.

To read the full call and to apply, go to NAD’s website: www.neuroscienceacademydenmark.dk.

On the website, you can also sign up for online information meetings about the programme.
