Diagnostic assessment of written assignments for foundational first–year writing course.

Number of Positions (est): Up to ten (10) positions
Estimated enrolment: Approx. 800 students
Schedule: Training and benchmarking will take place tentatively on November 25th. Assessments will take place in early January, tentatively from January 11-16th.
Sessional dates of appointment: November 25, 2022 to July 15, 2023
Hours: Up to 5 hours of training and benchmarking in November and up to 20 hours of benchmarking in January. Additional hours may be negotiated during the remainder of the academic year on a discretionary basis.
Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates are:
- Writing Instructor I: $47.94/hr plus 4% vacation pay
- Writing Instructor II: $51.55/hr plus 6% vacation pay
- Writing Instructor II (priority): $53.06/hr plus 6% vacation pay.
Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: Include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Applied Linguistics, Communication, English, Education) with strong writing and oral communication skills, TESL certification or equivalent and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Flexible availability is a requirement for these positions.
Preferred Qualifications: Include a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline (as above), familiarity with advanced second- language education practices and/or experience as an assessor of second and/or additional language student writing.
Description of duties:
- Meeting with Associate Director, Curriculum and team of assessors for benchmarking session
- Performing diagnostic assessments of individual written assignments
- Recording and reporting results in a timely manner
- Having the ability to convert to online duties if required
