Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14
times per year): B1, € 2.684,10The overall aim of the desired doctoral thesis is to investigate the impact of drought and severe rainfall
on the interaction of beech trees with components of the water cycle. The project wil be conducted in
the Rosalia research forest of BOKU using in-situ and grab sample measurements of stable water
isotopes. Further, time series analysis and isotope hydrological modeling of water cycle components
wil be used in cooperation with the Institute of Hydrology and Water Management and the Institute of
Soil Research (both BOKU). The specific tasks of this open position are mainly:Responsibilities
Operating and maintaining an in-situ isotope hydrological measurement system in cooperation
with technical staff
Conducting artificial drought stress and irrigation experiments in cooperation with technical
staff
Estimating evaporation, transpiration and groundwater recharge
Estimating the seasonal precipitation source of beech trees
Data evaluation and interpretation
Statistical analysis (e.g. regression analysis)
Publication of scientific papers
Presentation of results at scientific conferencesRequired skil s and qualifications
Diploma degree in Hydrology, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences or other equivalent
university degree
Language skil s: English
Knowledge of hydrology and/or ecohydrology
Ability to solve technical problems if necessary
Skil s in statistics and data analysis
Driver’s license BDesirable skil s and qualifications
Basic knowledge in isotope hydrology
Experience in modeling water cycle components
Experience in field work, especially with automated isotope hydrological systems
Interest in interdisciplinary research questions
