- Description
- Supports the DNR and ACE Basin NERR in its mission to provide access and education opportunities at the McKenzie Field Station by ensuring a fully functioning and properly maintained facility, equipment and grounds. This also includes coordinating and facilitating visitor use and maintenance contractors, taking leadership in identifying facility needs, and maintaining archery and camping permits for DNR properties within the ACE Basin. Enhances the stewardship mission of DNR and the ACE Basin NERR by implementing management actions on South Fenwick Island. This may include mowing, road and trail maintenance, cutting fire lines, campsite maintenance, as well as other tasks that arise. Assists with management of the St. Helena Sound HP/WMA as needed. Acts as field liaison for researchers in the ACE Basin. Ensures proper operating condition and maintenance of agency equipment. This includes boats, trailers, tractors and implements.
- Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area. Knowledge of South Carolina’s fish, wildlife and marine species, including their habits, habitats and natural requirements. Ability to safely operate a boat in remote tidal waters. Experience with the safe operation of tractors, chainsaws, motorboats, and small gas engines. Ability to troubleshoot and address minor facility and equipment repairs independently. Ability to perform physical tasks in varying climatic conditions. Working knowledge of coastal habitat management principles and techniques. Ability to conduct upland and marine wildlife surveys and collect data accurately. Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.
