Position Focus:

The role of the Yale Printing & Publishing Services (YPPS) Application and Web Developer delivers systems solutions for the business needs within YPPS. The position is a dual role supporting both the unique applications used within YPPS as well as front-end web development and client support. Having a detailed knowledge of industry-specific applications and the technical components involved is necessary to provide support to the YPPS team.

The Developer will possess a detailed understanding of the printing and publishing business and help identify inefficiencies or optimization opportunities in the applications and systems in use. This includes designing, coding, testing, implementation and maintenance of application software and associated interfaces and databases in highly complex solutions. Performs technical and functional analysis of information, processing, and management systems; designs systems and identifies interrelationships among systems. Develops and implements security, maintenance, installation and optimization of systems and applications either user-created or third-party database systems

Collaborates with the YPPS creative team members and university clients to propose innovative web solutions to meet the needs of various university departments. Participates in and leads the design and development of new innovative solutions as well as the refinement and optimization of existing systems.

Maintains the YPPS website and deployment of digital marketing initiatives.

THIS IS A 100% REMOTE ROLE.

Essential Duties

1. Develops programs or systems of small to moderate size and complexity. Modifies existing systems at all levels of difficulty. 2. Provides informational input into decisions concerning the development and delivery of applications, programs and systems. Defines and analyzes requirements to meet the expectations of stakeholders and intended end users needs, scheduled timeline, and budgetary targets. 3. Analyzes, defines and designs new systems and applications. Writes code in support of business solutions. 4. Responsible for the creation, definition, communication, and management of project plans which includes architectural design, technology selection and methodologies to apply. 5. Troubleshoots problems and provide ongoing maintenance and support for applications and systems. 6. Prepares documentation, user manuals and develops formal proposals for new systems and modifications to existing systems. Mentors technical staff and provide training for end users. 7. Contributes in the development of policies or modifications to exiting policies. 8. Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies. Provides ongoing input to the establishment of programming standards, procedures, and methodologies. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree. Three years of experience in analysis and programming of small to medium scale systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Well-developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Well-developed organizational skills that ensure timely and high-quality outcomes. Demonstrated ability to align business goals with technology needs.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment and utilize negotiation skills. Ability to liaise with and influence all levels of management.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Technical aptitude, and ability to learn and apply knowledge quickly. Developed configuration skills across complex applications.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong programming experience with HTML, CSS, SQL Server, Javascript, Jquery, Drupal CMS, Classic ASP, ASP.Net, PHP, JSON, and Salesforce.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience. Experience with printing MIS systems, e-commerce storefronts and Papercut. Provides backend application support for applications such as Avanti, Xerox Core, BCC Mail Manager, ABBYY Reader, Neopost, MS Access, Quite Imposing, Planet Press, XMPie, SalesForce, and a number of web-based applications.
