Organizational Setting
The post is located in the Web Communications Section, Information and Digital Outreach Division, Copyright and Creative Industries Sector. The Web Communications Section is responsible for the overall management of the WIPO website, including user-experience, content strategy, information architecture and design. The Section provides guidance, standards, quality control and training throughout the Organization in support of online communications and user experience goals.
Purpose Statement
- The Web Communications Officer will act as the focal point between the Web Communications Section, its internal clients and ICTD developers and manage the planning, development and implementation of various web projects. The Web Communications Officer will also oversee adherence of web content to the digital tone of voice (TOV) guidance and ensure that the relevant content is made available in the six official UN languages.
Reporting Lines
- The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Web Communications Section.
Work Relations
The incumbent works in close collaboration with content creators and subject-matter specialists Organization-wide, as well as with developers in the Information and Communication Technology Department and colleagues in the Information and Digital Outreach Division and other related divisions.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
- Plan, coordinate and manage the technical implementation of new user journeys, web projects and databases as well as the revamping of existing web content areas.
- Liaise between the Web Communications Section, its internal clients and the technical developers in ICTD, to develop requirements for the delivery of new Liferay functionality and test/validate its deployment.
- Conduct Liferay training and provide support to web publishers.
- Develop and maintain procedures and Liferay reference documentation such as manuals, tutorials, training material and instructional videos.
- Curate, edit and categorize multilingual web content in coordination with content owners and assuming responsibility for achieving the official Program KPIs related to the availability of web content in the six official UN languages. Overseeing adherence to the digital tone of voice (TOV) on wipo.int content and ensure web content compliance with WIPO web guidelines and best practice.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
Education (Essential)
- First-level university degree in communications, marketing, languages, writing or other relevant discipline.
- Recent certification in digital content marketing and/or writing for the web.
Experience (Essential)
- At least six years of experience in a public or private sector organization, preferably in a digital content creation/publishing role.
- Experience working in an international Organization with a global (multilingual) user base.
Experience (Desirable)
- Proven experience coordinating IT development work through issue tracking systems such as JIRA and Confluence.
- Strong experience working with HTML, CSS, web accessibility standards and SEO to develop web user interfaces and static web pages.
Language (Essential)
- Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English and French.
Language (Desirable)
- Working knowledge of additional UN official working languages (French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Arabic.
