Web Communications Content Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Director, Editorial Services, the Web Communications Content Specialist will support the organizational business and communication objectives by improving the quality and consistency of written content and enhancing brand adherence throughout the UMass Chan Medical School website. This position will assist the Medical School in ensuring high-quality, accurate online content is available to various audiences seeking information of the Medical School’s world-class educational opportunities, biomedical research and stature as the commonwealth’s only public health sciences university.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Work with stakeholders across the UMass Chan Medical School enterprise to systematically create, improve, maintain and review written content on the website umassmed.edu
  • Serve as a trusted partner, advisor and contact for staff who maintain web content in academic departments, offices, centers and the three graduate schools (T.H. Chan School of Medicine, Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing)
  • Follow Associated Press editing style and enforce Medical School brand guidelines
  • Pay great attention to detail and exhibit strong written, digital and interpersonal communication skills
  • Implement and maintain best practices that can be sustained
  • Inform and attain goals that may change over time to align with the overall goals of the University
  • Partner effectively and proactively with colleagues in Communications, Information Technology and academic departments.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; to take a creative approach to planning and problem-solving while also taking direction well.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, English or a related field
  • 3-5 years of professional experience
  • Experience using content management systems
  • Strong conceptual and writing skills, a meticulous eye for detail, accuracy and the ability to take a project from inception to completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to establish and maintain respectful professional relationships
  • Ability to meet long and short-term deadlines, and to work simultaneously on multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a small team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a higher education, health care or life sciences setting preferred
