Cardiff University invites applications for a 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) post of Web and Digital Content Officer.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the GW4 BioMed MRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) to recruit a self-motivated and creative individual as a Web and Digital Content Officer. Providing high quality, functional content for the DTP’s students and partner institutions, the role includes the creation and maintenance of a new website and the management of our online training resources. The Web and Digital Content Officer will also manage social media content and create new and innovative ways of connecting our with our stakeholders. Working closely with the Centre Manager but also working with our contacts at Bristol, Bath and Exeter Universities, the Officer will ensure that the DTP offers a quality, up-to date online presence which is engaging, functional and up-to-date.

This is a part-time post (17.5 hours per week), available from 1 October 2022 and is fixed term until 30 September 2025. Working pattern to be agreed with the appointed candidate.

Salary: £28,762 – £33,314 per annum, pro-rata for hours worked (Grade 5)

Job Description

Job Purpose

Support the University with web and digital content for the GW4 BioMed2 MRC Doctoral Training Partnership, led by Cardiff, conducting supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading projects within this area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Duties

  • Create and maintain high quality, functional content for the GW4 BioMed2 MRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) website and digital presence, working closely with the DTP Manager and partner institutions., including the creation and launch of a new DTP website.
  • Proactively ensure new website content is current and up-do-date and manage the web updating process by guiding and assisting content contributions and by preparing and writing copy for web pages, working closely with the DTP Manager to ensure a co-ordinated approach across the DTP.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on the DTP’s web and digital content processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
  • Evaluate the use of content and digital channels using data to drive and support decision-making on a regular basis to encourage innovation (such as introducing student-generated content) utilising feedback, analytics and testing.
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues with our web and digital content, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances with our online presence.
  • Ensure that the provision of our webs and digital content is delivered to the GW4 institutions, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
  • Support online student training by managing our CORE training programme, using Blackboard Collaborate
  • Collaborate with others to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures including student recruitment
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve the DTP’s web and digital content objective
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

1.Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

2. Substantial experience of working within the website and online content development discipline including Squiz Matrix and WordPress.
3. Able to demonstrate professional knowledge to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers
4. Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

5. Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people
6. Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

7. Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity, identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes
8. Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within web and digital content management
9. Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.

Desirable Criteria

1.  Postgraduate/Professional qualification
2.  Experience of working in a Higher Education environment
3.  Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
