The Health Information Portal and The Centre for Health Information are the health information “hubs” of Baycrest. Through these “hubs”, we aim to educate patients, caregivers and community members about aging and brain health through reliable health education resources. The Centre for Health Information aims to be the destination for health and aging-well resources including books, brochures and digital resources. The Centre will enrich the lives of older adults through volunteer interactions, meaningful resources and programs, and the use of technology.

Volunteers will be responsible for all daily functions of the Centre and providing excellent customer service to patrons. They will receive further training to engage with patrons to understand and meet their health information needs.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

• Provide excellent customer service
• Participate as a member of a productive and collaborative team
• Attend volunteer group meetings
• Attend training sessions as offered
• Engage with patrons to understand and meet their health information needs
• Use multimodal methods (paper, online) to locate tailored, reliable health information as per patron request; Assist patrons to independently find health information materials in multimodal formats (i.e. identify and navigate reliable health information websites or brochures)
• Perform basic administrative functions (check email, make/receive phone calls, check voicemail, document daily Centre usage statistics)
• General Centre maintenance, opening/closing procedures as required
• Participate in the promotion of Health Information Sessions
• Participate in the promotion of corporate Patient, Family and Consumer Education (PFCE) across the Baycrest campus (such as supporting the development of “education stations” (literature displays etc.) on units or in clinics and referring professionals to the PFCE team as appropriate)
