We are seeking to appoint a Visual Designer to provide visual, graphical and UI design expertise to support the delivery of library experiences that are on-brand and aligned to library user needs.

This role, working collegially with the Visual Design Lead, contributes to the design of high-quality, consistent, scalable, and user-centred collateral by prototyping, designing and delivering components, elements, interfaces, and collateral that serves the library’s diverse digital and print ecosystem. This includes websites, blogs, library and vendor systems, digital displays and signage, communications, video, and learning material.

The Visual Designer maintains, develops, and advises upon the library’s global design principles and the use of Library design elements by the library community. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver graphic/UI design solutions from original concept to final product, across a complex ecosystem
  • Plan and oversee aspects of end-to-end design projects to deliver sustainable outcomes, value within constraints of time, cost and quality
  • Plan and prioritise work and critical activities appropriately and recognise barriers to achieving outcomes, find effective ways to deal with them and evaluate progress
  • Strive for excellence and consult regularly with clients to clarify who requires the information, the purpose for which it is required, criteria for success and where and when advice and recommendation is required
  • Develop and implement practical, accessible solutions based on stakeholder needs
  • Actively seek feedback from colleagues and stakeholders on things that are working well and areas for improvement
  • Investigate and probe for the facts and identify relevant solutions and select the most appropriate from the range of alternatives
  • Understand and integrate perspectives held within different areas of the University and puts plans in place to build collaboration, mutually beneficial ethical alliances and develop common goals

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Multimedia, Communications or Design Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in a design discipline
  • Proficient in the user of industry standard design programs and technologies, such as:
    • Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, XD, Audition) Prototyping tools (e.g., Invision, Sketch, XD, Zeplin, Figma) 
    • Basic HTML and CSS
