Duties & Responsibilities:
–Maintain regular phone and email communication with state and federal agency partners and volunteer citizen scientists to facilitate data collection and submission.
–Develop questions, conduct research, and author publications on new quantitative approaches for assessing the abundance and distribution of bats at the continental scale.
–Produce annual year-end reports for partners and for funding agencies like USGS and state agencies. In addition, the position will produce first-quarter annual hub-level status and trends assessments for all Midwestern bat species.
–Oversee monitoring equipment inventory (bat detectors, cases, accessories, and shipping materials) and prepare bat acoustic equipment for deployment by volunteers/partners, send equipment to partners, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in natural resources or related field.
Understands bat acoustic technology and has experience processing and analyzing bat acoustic data.
Specialty Factors
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal). Experience managing large datasets and conducting multivariate statistical analyses. Able to organize and implement projects independently.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
–Knowledge of foundational principles of ecology as related to animal distributions and spatiotemporal patterns of abundance
–Knowledge of bat biology and behavior
–PC skills including database queries and word processing
–Proficient in coding in R and Python
–Skilled in making maps and figures for reports
–Ability to manage large datasets
–Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with partners
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
