Main Purpose of Job:
This is an exciting opportunity to work in in a fast-paced, multicultural, and fascinating environment. This role is for someone who is open to innovative ideas and ways of working, able to work with constantly changing priorities and manage a full workload in a diverse team.
The internship supports British commercial interests in both Guatemala and Honduras and promote cross-sector collaboration with trade and investment activities. It also supports and develops relationships with UK and Guatemalan/Honduran companies and deliver an effective programme of activities focused on highlighting UK expertise across different sectors.
The role holder will provide administrative support to the different sectors that the Department for Business and Trade of the British Embassy in Guatemala City manages. They will report to the Trade Officer in Guatemala City and support the day-to-day operations of the commercial team.
The successful candidate will also undertake research activities as well as support face-to-face and virtual events in Guatemala and Honduras.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Assist the trade team in delivering the multi-sector campaign objectives including education, life sciences, energy, security, infrastructure, agri-tech, clean growth and others.
- Conduct market research across the multiple sectors of the Guatemalan and Honduran economy.
- Assist DBT team during the planning and delivery of trade mission(s) to Guatemala.
- Collaborate with new ideas, directions, and tools for communications that facilitate the completion of the team’s objectives.
- Provide administrative support in the organisation and delivery of events and marketing activities

- Candidates must possess advanced written, communication and research skills.
- Must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate programme, or graduated within the last 6 months (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Administration, International Business, Engineering, etc.).
- Availability to start their internship on the proposed date (Successful candidate will start the role by late October or early November).
- Proactive team player with strong inter-personal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn.
- Ability to work effectively and deliver results.
- High-level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Spanish
Level of language required: Excellent verbal and written skills
