Glimpse of the Job

The Vet Med Teaching Hospital (VMTH) provides total care for animal patients while helping train the next generation of veterinarians at the only veterinary teaching hospital in the state of Texas! The Veterinary Technician I will provide support to clinicians, residents, and interns in the Large Animal Intensive Care Unit of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital by instructing veterinary students in proper clinical techniques and by delivering exceptional patient care through a collaborative environment. This position facilitates faculty instruction of professional curriculum to veterinary medical students with an emphasis on clinical techniques, performs and instructs students with proper patient care and restraint, and maintains a clean and well-organized work area. Successful candidates will have a desire to work with large animals, learn new skills, and demonstrate their ability to work cooperatively with a team. The veterinary field is always evolving, and this position allows you to further develop and advance your skills.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for an entry level include: Associate degree in Veterinary Technology, Biomedical Science, Animal Science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. General understanding of equipment used in a veterinary medical teaching hospital.

Salary Range: $14.53 – $18.67 per hour (based on experience)

Work Schedule: The standard shift is (Thursday – Sunday, 10:00pm – 8:00am) with the ability to work alternative shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call duty.

Position Details: Must have the ability to work around animals, hay, or dust. Ability to move heavy loads.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless or until relieved by their direct supervisor.
