Veterans Scholarship

In 2023, UniSQ will offer one Veterans Scholarship to support Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans in their transition to civilian life, who are commencing their studies in a bachelor’s degree program (including dual degree programs).

Established in 2022 through gifts from donors, in recognition of service and support for ADF veterans in their transition to civilian life through study at the University of Southern Queensland.

Value

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $8000 to be paid over two years.
Eligibility

Applicants must:

• be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or permanent humanitarian visa holder
• have separated from full-time service with the ADF for no more than 5 years (applicants who are in the process of discharging and will be fully discharged by no later than 13 November 2022 are eligible to apply)
• be commencing their studies at UniSQ in a bachelor’s degree program (including dual degree programs) in Study Period 1 (e.g., Semester 1 2023)
• not have already attained a tertiary qualification at a bachelor level or higher
• be enrolled in a minimum of 6 study units across each academic year, for the duration of the scholarship as follows: 
  • minimum 3 study units in Study Period 1 (e.g., Semester 1); and 
  • minimum 3 study units across the remaining study periods (e.g., Semesters 2 and 3)
• be enrolled on-campus, external or online.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

• submit a personal statement (500 words maximum) outlining:
  • what influenced and motivated you to choose your intended study program at UniSQ
  • how you see yourself as a future professional within your field
  • what challenges have you faced in transitioning out of, or since leaving, the ADF.

• provide a copy of your ADF history (must include reference to your date of discharge from the ADF).

Please Note: If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. There are some scholarships that cannot be held together.
