*UoL Redeployees Only* Research Associate Grade 7

University of Liverpool

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated qualitative researcher to join a multi-disciplinary team working on two innovative studies- the Big BOSS study and the BXO study ¿ both of which aim to improve clinical care for young people and their families. The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) have funded a clinical trial (called Big BOSS) to compare two types of surgery to identify which one is best for treating children with a hip disease called Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCRE). The post-holder will run an embedded qualitative study within Big BOSS. This will explore barriers and facilitators to participant recruitment and inform information materials for patients and families. The findings will also inform practical strategies to enhance the acceptability of Big BOSS for children and families and optimise participant recruitment. The BXO study is a collaborative research project between the University of Liverpool and Alder Hey Children¿s Hospital. The postholder will conduct interviews and focus groups to explore what boys, their parents/guardians, and surgeons think about two different treatments for Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO) ¿ a skin condition that affects the foreskin. Understanding their perspectives will help us when designing an acceptable and appropriate trial that is patient-centred and pragmatic. This post will suit a qualitative/mixed methods researcher who has experience of research a healthcare or related environment. It offers excellent opportunities for a researcher keen to hone their skills within a strong and supportive multi-disciplinary team and would be an ideal post for someone who is interested in pursuing further training in clinical or health psychology. You will have a background in social science, psychology, health services or a related subject. You should be experienced in qualitative research methods. The role will involve travel between the University of Liverpool and clinical sites. The post is available on a fixed term basis for 24 months.
