*UoL Redeployees only* Data Scientist in Inverse Design of Periodic Crystals Grade 7

You will work on research to be carried out as part of the EPSRC New Horizons project ¿Inverse design of periodic crystals¿ (EP/X018474/1) announced at https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/2022/09/29/epsrc-new-horizons-grant-for-data-scientist. The research will take place under the direction of Dr Vitaliy Kurlin within the Department of Computer Science and the Materials Innovation Factory at the University of Liverpool.  The other co-Investigator is Professor Andy Cooper FRS. The project will involve collaboration across universities (for example, Southampton and Oxford), disciplines (Computational Geometry, Materials Chemistry) and industrial partners (CCDC, Microsoft). The research will involve developing, extending and applying tools of Geometric Data Science. Though the expected background of an ideal candidate is Mathematics and Computer Science, your communication skills and ability to learn quickly will be important for our collaboration with chemists. You will be based in the department of Computer Science or in the Materials Innovation Factory at Liverpool. 

The essential requirements are the experience in computer programming (e.g. C++, Python, Java, Matlab, R) and excellent verbal and written communication skills.  You should have PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science or Computational Chemistry.  The desirable requirements are the experience of team work or supervision of research students, and publications in Mathematics, Data Science, or Computational Chemistry.

The appointment is until 28th June 2024.
