Living Conditions

Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, is a large and dynamic metropolitan city and serves as the country’s political, economic, and cultural hub. While the city offers access to a range of services, international organizations, and cultural activities, living conditions can be challenging due to the ongoing socio-economic and humanitarian context. Access to basic services such as electricity, water, healthcare, and transportation may be inconsistent in some areas, and periodic disruptions can occur. The cost of living for international personnel can vary significantly depending on lifestyle and housing choices, with secure accommodation often required. Security remains a key consideration, and adherence to United Nations security regulations and guidance from UNDSS is mandatory at all times.

Despite those challenges, Caracas is also characterized by a vibrant culture, strong community networks, and a welcoming population. International personnel are advised to maintain a flexible and adaptive approach to living and working conditions and to familiarize themselves with local context, language (Spanish), and security protocols to ensure a safe and productive assignment.
