Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is located with the UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan, Ashgabat. The internship is for the period of six months with a desired starting date in July 2026, is UNPAID and part-time. Interns work five days per week (25 hours) under the supervision of professional staff of the office to which they are assigned. The UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan, operating under the Regional Office for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan (ROCA) and its regional programme for Central Asia as well as UNSDCF, supports national efforts to address challenges related to illicit drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, terrorism, and emerging security threats. UNODC provides technical assistance, capacity building, and policy support in counter narcotics, organized crime, border management, passenger and cargo control, anti-corruption and asset recovery, anti-money laundering, trafficking in persons, illicit commodities, wildlife, and fire-arms, cybercrime and maritime crime, criminal justice reform, youth crime prevention and prevention of violent extremism and terrorism. It also contributes to health-related initiatives, including evidence-based drug use prevention, treatment, and HIV/AIDS responses. Through close cooperation with national authorities, civil society, private sector and international partners, the Programme Office strengthens Turkmenistan’s law enforcement, justice, security, and health systems, while promoting regional cooperation in line with UNODC’s strategic frameworks. Under the overall supervision of the UNODC POTKM respective Officer the selected intern will provide support in implementation of activities within the framework UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022-2027: – Provide support to the organization of meetings, events and conferences, side events to strengthen strategic engagement with UN system partners. – General support in processing, drafting and finalizing training materials – Provide assistance in social media campaigns. – Support to develop communication materials based on good practices, impact example and achievements. – Assist in data collection of science, technology and innovation practices. – Conduct web research and provide analysis on science, technology and innovation and sustainable development issues. – Adding data to the databases – Provide support in operations, including finance, procurement, HR, general administration – Assist with archiving: prepare procurement materials for archiving, register the archived files, up-date the register of archived file

Qualifications/special skills

Pursuing graduate degree in law, international relations, management, business administration, finance, social sciences or other relevant academic disciplines. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). – Be computer literate in standard software applications; – Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and – Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Russian is required for the internship. Knowledge of Turkmen is desirable. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
