At the Faculty of Physics at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor in the field of Theoretical High Energy Physics with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of October 2025.This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).The position as professor for Theoretical High Energy Physics has been allocated in TU Wien’s development plan to the following TU Focal Area(s) of Research: [Quantum Physics & Quantum Technologies].The Institute for Theoretical Physics at TU Wien is searching for outstanding candidates to fill a tenured University Professorship in Theoretical High Energy Physics, for example in the field of the gauge/gravity duality.The applicant’s trend-setting scientific profile shall complement and expand on-going research activities in theoretical high energy physics at TU Wien. We expect the successful candidate to be an international leader in theoretical high energy physics with excellent embedding into the global research community, the proven ability to lead an independent research team, and a demonstrated ability to acquire third-party funding.The professorship is located at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at TU Wien. We anticipate a close collaboration with groups working at the Institute, as well as at the faculty of Physics or other faculties of TU Wien. Synergies with the institutes of the Academy of Sciences (HEPHY, SMI, IQOQI) and the experiments they are involved in are encouraged.We expect the applicant to be strongly motivated and well qualified to substantially contribute to the teaching (in English and in German) of the bachelor and master curricula of TU Wien and to participate in the academic management of the institute and faculty.Your profile:Completed PhD in the field under consideration
Outstanding publication record in internationally recognized academic journals
Teaching qualification (venia docendi) or an equivalent academic qualification
Pedagogic and didactic qualification for academic teaching of Physics, in English and German (in case the candidate does not yet possess sufficient knowledge of German, we expect a commitment to acquire German skills at a level suitable for teaching, for participation in the management of the institute and faculty as well as in governing bodies of the university)
Experience in the supervision of research projects of students and Postdocs
International research experience relevant to the field of specialization and international visibility
Experience in the acquisition, completion and management of research projects
Ability and willingness to manage a research group
Competence and experience in the professional promotion of young scientists

Classification in the pay grade A1 of the collective bargaining agreement for employees of universities and a minimum salary of EUR 89,075.00 gross annual is provided for. Furthermore, on top of the employee benefit fund, a company pension scheme will be set up for employees, depending on the duration of their employment, with the result that personnel benefits will increase. A higher salary depending on qualifications and experience is subject of appointment negotiations as well as detailed information about benefits.
