SUMMARY:
The University Dean for Nursing provides strategic and programmatic leadership for CalSouthern’s School of Nursing and serves as the Chief Nurse Administrator and thought leader. They will oversee all aspects of curriculum development and drive innovations in methodology and pedagogy.  The Dean will work with Program Chairs and Faculty to ensure that student learning outcomes are being met at appropriate levels through excellence in academic delivery and backed by a robust assessment strategy.  The Dean will also be responsible for maintaining programmatic accreditation with CCNE, and conduct outreach into the larger academic and professional communities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides vision and plans, develops and coordinates implementation of short and long term strategies for the School of Nursing.
  • Approves and provides direction for new program development and program/course revisions
  • Serves as the primary thought leader and in-house SME for curricular areas in Nursing
  • Works to improve and enhance the curriculum.  Is hands-on with curriculum projects
  • Leads program level assessment of student learning
  • Oversees efforts, where relevant, to acquire and maintain programmatic accreditation
  • Engage in industry-relevant research that supports and informs the curriculum and the larger academic discipline
  • Actively engages in social media efforts, conference participation, and outreach to the academic and professional communities (including interaction with advisory boards and other experts)
  • Participates in academic governance and serves as chair in relevant Councils and Committees
  • Collaborates with colleagues in Admissions, Advising, Marketing and other areas to facilitate optimal distribution of program information
  • Develops and maintains relationship with Career Services to provide industry-relevant job sources and trend information
  • Understands the mission, vision, goals and academic standards and policies of the University, and espouses them in the performance of duties
  • Adheres to all University policies, procedures, integrity, and ethical standards
  • Supports Vice Provost with curriculum initiatives, as required
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (MINIMUM): 

  • Doctorate/terminal degree in Nursing, DNP or a related field.
  • Registered Nurse with current unencumbered license in state of residence
  • Must have extensive experience with CCNE and AACN Accreditation and Standards
  • Minimum 5 years college/university senior academic leadership experience
  • Minimum 5 years college/university teaching experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in professional field
