At the Institute of Architectural Sciences, in the Research Unit of Building Physics and Building Ecology TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week.

We are looking for a motivated candidate to develop methods to simulate, design and analyze the impacts of strategies and technologies on multi-energy systems from buildings to neighborhood scale. Challenges encompass – among others – retrofitting strategies, impact of the micro-climate, climate change mitigation, urban multi-energy system design, energy flexibility options and the coupling of the heating and mobility sector. Existing and new optimization methods and models will be combined and applied to new problems for individual buildings and at urban scale. The candidate for this position shall translate his/her research ideas into a PhD project in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and partners.

Tasks:

  • Research, project, and publication activities within the fields of building and urban energy systems
  • Participation in teaching activities in the undergraduate and graduate programs Architecture and Building Sciences and Environment
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Participation and support in examination activities of undergraduate and graduate students

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master’s degree appropriate to the subject civil and environmental engineering, architecture, computer science or similar until the time of occupation
  • Profound knowledge in energy, building physics, design optimization, and building technology
  • Strong optimization/modelling as well as data analysis skills in Python or similar, knowledge in geographical information systems (GIS) is a plus
  • Experience in scientific working and knowledge of scientific principles
  • Willingness to expand your knowledge in the domain of your research
  • Team player, problem solving skills, and creative thinking
  • Organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of German or willingness to learn it within the first two years

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,684.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
