Welcome to our team!Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsSpecific RequirementsYour personal sphere of play:Your future position is at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research in the Biodiversity Dynamics and Conservation Group, a team of about 20 persons. Our group studies patterns of biodiversity and biodiversity change at various spatial and temporal scales, with a particular focus on the consequences of human-driven environmental change, especially climate and land use change. Our model systems are mainly vascular plants, but also include other taxonomic groups. We apply a range of statistical methods to existing datasets or to data collected by own field observations and experiments. In addition, we have a focus on the development and application of predictive models of species’ range dynamics. For more information please see .We are currently offering a two-year post-doc position (temporary replacement, until 30/09/2026). The successful candidate should further develop, implement and apply the species migration model CATS (see Doi: 10.1111/2041-210X.14180) towards a multispecies-framework to simulate the simultaneous spatio-temporal dynamics of entire biological communities. In addition, they should help with efficient approaches towards computationally intensive ecological analysis. We expect a candidate with a strong background in C-programming and experience in modelling spatially explicit plant population dynamics.The Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research is part of the faculty of Life Sciences with 10,000 students and a highly international team of
1000 employeesYour future tasks:Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You build up an independent research profile in a field related to our group’s research focus
- You participate in and contribute to ongoing research projects
- You apply for new projects and raise third-party funds.
- You publish internationally and give lectures.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You supervise master students within your field of research.
- You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed doctoral/PhD studies in ecology or a related field
- Additional education, e.g. at the master level, in computational science, physics or mathematics is a strong asset
- Good knowledge of linear algebra
- Advanced programming skills, especially in C
- Experience with spatially explicit modelling of plant population dynamcis
- Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
- Team player and high social/communicative skills
