Expected start: October 2024The research work will be concerned with using knowledge graphs and graph technologies to bring meaning to large amounts of heterogeneous data, enable novel perspectives of analysis, and make data and results accessible. Of particular interest are scalable support of knowledge graph evolution, provenance, data integration, exploration, quality, analytics, embeddings, and knowledge sharing.Tasks:

• Research and publication activities within the fields of databases, data and knowledge engineering, and machine learning
• Solving scientific problems with the motivation for independent and goal-oriented research
• Independent teaching and participation in teaching, examination, and supervision of students
• Project work and leading of project groups
• Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty

Your profile:

• Completion of an excellent doctorate in Computer Science (or related field)
• Strong background in data management
• In-depth knowledge and experiences in at least one subject area: knowledge graphs, data integration (data lakes, fabrics), provenance, data quality, query optimization, dynamic knowledge graphs, exploratory analytics, knowledge sharing
• An outstanding publication record in top Databases, Semantic Web, or data and knowledge engineering conferences and journals, e.g., VLDB, SIGMOD/PODS, EDBT/ICDT, TheWebConf, ICDE, ISWC, ESWC, VLDBJ
• Strong programming skills and experience with developing research prototypes
• Ability to develop methods, concepts, as well as their implementation and evaluation and the willingness to contribute in interdisciplinary scientific projects
• Experience in teaching and publication activities as well as excitement about research and work with students
• Organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
• Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of German (level B2) or willingness to learn it in the first year
