As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.The TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (post-doc) at the Institute of Mechanics and Mechatronics limited to expected 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: September 2024. The position is assigned to the resach unit Mechanics of Solids, which focuses on scientific questions of statics and dynamics of thin-walled structures, e.g: problems in which large deformations, inelastic deformations (plasticity) or contact interactions occur.The futur holder of the position will be given the freedom to choose his/her own research direction within the broad context of the topics of the research unit. It is expected that the researcher will establish him/herself internationally through independent scientific achievements in the course of his/her work.Tasks:

  • Research activities at an international level in the field of nonlinear mechanics of thin-walled structures with a focus on the application of analytical or numerical methods to problems of large deformations, contact mechanics or inelastic structural mechanics
  • Teaching, assistance with examinations, co-supervision of final theses
  • Development and implementation of experimental setups in the institute’s new laboratory, both in teaching and research
  • Acquisition of third-party funded projects, project work and management of project groups
  • Publication activities
  • Participation in and organization of scientific events
  • Assistance with organizational and administrative tasks of the institute

Your profile:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree appropriate to the position with a doctorate in mechanical engineering or similar subjects related to applied mechanics
  • Very good English language skills; German language skills an advantage
  • Proven experience of scientific work as well as good specialist knowledge in the mechanics of solid bodies and in-depth knowledge in the field of non-linear statics and dynamics of thin-walled structures
  • Ability to conduct independent theoretical-analytical research in mechanics
  • Competence in scientific software development and numerical simulation
  • Good performance, development potential and high motivation with regard to research and publication activities; international reputation an advantage
  • Relevant experience in academic teaching as well as in the supervision and co-supervision of academic theses
  • Willingness to acquire third-party funding
