Job Summary Dalhousie’s Strategic Plan, Third Century Promise, emphasizes the importance of identifying and supporting process improvement priorities that support our academic mission. UniForum is a program designed for research-intensive higher education institutions to measure service effectiveness across 65 administrative functions and benchmark results with peer institutions. UniForum promotes data driven decision making, organizational transparency, and assists with identification of opportunities for improved service delivery and efficiency. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Administration, the UniForum Program Director will act as program champion for this critical new initiative, and will be responsible for operationalizing the program across Dalhousie. This includes managing all related activities including program implementation and training, communication, survey collection and data analysis; and, together with functional leads, assisting in the identification, selection and project management of service improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate education, awareness and roll-out efforts. Identify key partners and program needs. Ensure effective support and resources to facilitate communications, data collection, analysis, and reporting; liaise and partner with various Dalhousie units as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement any necessary training, communications, or process improvements to ensure program success. Develop and deliver information presentations to internal and external audiences. Identify best practices including developing relationships with other UniForum member institutions.
  • Leverage data collected, other internal data sources and analysis tools to ascertain, provide and share insights and analysis as to opportunities for administrative process improvements. Generate dashboards, charts, reports and other communication tools for sharing information and recommendations with key audiences at all levels of the University.
  • Formulate and deliver a training program, complementing training developed by Cubane, the firm that mounts the UniForum program. Work with appropriate Dalhousie units to ensure training and supporting materials are clear, comprehensive, and accessible. Provide ad hoc support as needed to users.
  • Develop and manage the UniForum project team. Determine and recommend appropriate team size and composition. Lead hiring and onboarding efforts. Oversee team integration with other units as appropriate.
  • Provide direction to project managers assigned to UniForum process improvement initiatives, providing additional project management support when needed or in special circumstances. Lead and/or support teams in change initiatives to improve administrative efficiencies.

Infrequent travel (by air) may be required for this role. Travel restrictions in effect due to Covid-19 will be recognized.
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in related field plus at least seven years progressive relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Significant data analysis and project management experience in a complex organizational environment managing large‐scale projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and adopting new technologies, methods, and approaches to generate engagement and efficiency.
  • Proven leader of people, and issues and change management, inspiring confidence and credibility with a record of substantial achievement.
  • Accomplished relationship development and management experience with strong negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to embrace and champion change and drive collaborative, agile processes.
  • Experience developing and/or delivering training.
Assets
  • Masters degree in related field.
  • Additional education and/or experience in the higher education sector.
  • Change management, project Management Professional designation, and/or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
