Organization Mission

UNICEF Jordan works in close partnership with the Government of Jordan and other national institutions to support national development priorities and strengthen systems that ensure equitable access to essential services. UNICEF’s work spans key areas including health, nutrition, education, child protection, water and sanitation, and social protection, with a strong focus on system strengthening, emergency preparedness, and resilience building.

Within this mandate, the UNICEF Jordan Country Office supports evidence-based programming and coordinated responses to national priorities across sectors. The organization plays a key role in convening partners, supporting national systems, and ensuring alignment of interventions with national strategies and international standards.

Through this assignment, UNICEF aims to strengthen programme management capacity and coordination support to ensure timely implementation, effective monitoring, and high-quality delivery of UNICEF-supported programmes in collaboration with government counterparts, UN agencies, and implementing partners.

Context

The UN Volunteer will be embedded within the UNICEF Jordan Country Office and will support programme management, coordination, monitoring, and reporting functions across UNICEF-supported programmes. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Programme Specialist/Officer and contribute to strengthening programme implementation, partner coordination, documentation, and knowledge management.
This assignment supports UNICEF Jordan’s efforts to achieve equitable outcomes for children and communities through effective programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. The volunteer will work closely with government counterparts, implementing partners, civil society organizations, UN agencies, donors, and other key stakeholders to facilitate the timely delivery of programme results.
The assignment contributes to UNICEF Jordan’s Country Programme and supports the achievement of programme objectives through strengthened coordination, reporting, quality assurance, and operational efficiency.

National UN Specialist Volunteers in Jordan are entitled to:

• Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 1,145.08;
• Annual and learning leaves;

Key Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UNICEF Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will:
• Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of programme activities in line with annual workplans and programme priorities.
• Assist in tracking programme progress against agreed timelines, deliverables, indicators, and targets.
• Support the preparation, review, and quality assurance of programme documents, workplans, reports, presentations, briefing notes, and meeting materials.
• Follow up with implementing partners and relevant stakeholders on agreed actions, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
• Support monitoring activities, data collection, compilation, analysis, and documentation of programme results.
• Contribute to the preparation of donor reports, progress updates, internal reports, and programme performance summaries.
• Maintain organized records of programme documentation, reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and knowledge products.
• Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, consultations, training sessions, and field visits.
• Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, action trackers, and follow-up communications.
• Support coordination with government counterparts, implementing partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Assist in establishment of community feedback mechanisms and use feedback to inform community engagement.
• Assist in documenting lessons learned, good practices, innovations, and programme achievements.
• Support capacity development internally and externally and provide technical support and capacity building to government counterparts.
• Support knowledge management and information-sharing activities within the programme team.
• Assist in tracking programme expenditures and budget utilization against planned activities.
• Support compliance with UNICEF programme management procedures, reporting requirements, and documentation standards.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in programme management, project coordination, monitoring and reporting, administration, or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience supporting programme planning, implementation, and coordination processes.
• Experience preparing reports, briefing notes, presentations, and programme documentation.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Excellent problem-solving, and coordination skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams.

Living Conditions

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
