Result of Service

The primary result of the consultancy is to support IIS engineering project delivery activities through the development of engineering designs, technical documentation, solicitation packages, technical reviews and project implementation support, while establishing and strengthening BIM and digital engineering capabilities within IIS through the development of standards, workflows, tools, training and knowledge transfer activities. Evaluation of Outputs: The consultant will: a) Submit all assigned deliverables within agreed timelines and with no major technical deficiencies. b) Deliver engineering designs, technical documentation, BIM models, technical reviews and digital engineering outputs meeting IIS quality standards. c) Deliver BIM standards, templates, libraries, workflows and training materials as assigned. d) Provide effective knowledge transfer and support the establishment of BIM capabilities within IIS.

Work Location

Brindisi The Engineer will work on-site for the full duration of the assignment.

6 months, with possible extension based on funds availability and consultant”s performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in Innovation and Infrastructure Support (IIS) Unit of the Supply Chain Service, United Nations Global Service Centre in Brindisi, Italy. Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader within the Innovation and Infrastructure Support Unit and in line with established United Nations rules and procedures, the Engineer (Project Delivery and BIM/Revit Specialist) will support IIS engineering project delivery activities, including engineering design, technical reviews, project development, solicitation support, preparation of technical documentation, and implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital engineering practices. The incumbent will assist in carrying out engineering projects assigned by the Team Leader/Unit Head and support activities related to standardization, planning, design, BIM implementation, digital engineering and solicitation development in English. Functions and responsibilities: • Support engineering project delivery activities, including engineering assessments, project development, design reviews, preparation of drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, solicitation documents and other technical documentation. • Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering designs for infrastructure and facilities, utilities, physical security infrastructure, Strategic Deployment Stocks, and other engineering projects supporting UNGSC and client entities. • Prepare complete solicitation packages including technical specifications, scopes of work, technical evaluation criteria, bills of quantities, drawings and supporting documentation required for procurement exercises. • Support technical reviews assignments provided by IIS to UN Secretariat entities and other United Nations system organizations. • Support engineering inspections, site assessments, feasibility studies, technical investigations and project implementation activities as required. • Develop and maintain standardized engineering documentation, design templates, specifications, drawing libraries and technical guidance materials to support project delivery activities. • Support the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodologies and digital engineering practices within IIS. Support multidisciplinary design coordination using BIM and digital engineering methodologies to improve design integration, clash detection, coordination, constructability and project quality. • Develop BIM/Revit standards, templates, object libraries, model structures, workflows, quality assurance procedures and related digital engineering tools to support engineering project delivery. • Develop, maintain and coordinate Autodesk Revit models for engineering and infrastructure projects, including multidisciplinary coordination, model quality assurance, clash detection and production of project documentation. • Support the development of digital engineering solutions, knowledge management tools, project information management systems and engineering data repositories to enhance project delivery efficiency. • Provide training, coaching, technical guidance and knowledge transfer activities to IIS personnel on BIM methodologies, digital engineering tools and related best practices. • Support the transition from traditional design and documentation approaches to integrated digital engineering workflows and methodologies. • Liaise with engineers, architects, technical specialists and project stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective delivery of engineering projects. • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, environmental requirements, quality management principles, risk management practices and United Nations regulations, rules and procedures. • Perform other engineering, BIM, digital engineering and project delivery activities as assigned by the Chief IIS.

Qualifications/special skills

• University degree (Bachelor”s degree or equivalent or higher) in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering or related field is required. • Professional training or certification in Building Information Modelling (BIM) is desirable. • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering design, architectural design, project delivery, construction projects or related engineering disciplines is required. • A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience, working at proficiency level in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD for development of engineering or architectural designs and BIM models is required. • Experience in BIM coordination and coordination tools (such as Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, Dynamo or equivalent platforms), model management, clash detection, multidisciplinary design coordination and BIM implementation is desirable. • Experience in development and management of BIM standards, templates, families, object libraries and workflows is desirable • Experience supporting engineering projects for international organizations, governmental organizations or large infrastructure projects is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
