UNFPA SURGE RESPONSE ROSTER – MHPSS POSITIONS
UNFPA’s Humanitarian Response Division is seeking skilled Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialists to join our Surge Response Roster.
Deploy worldwide and make a difference in the lives of women and girls during humanitarian emergencies!

Deployment Roles:
- Support the integration of MHPSS into Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in Emergencies programming;
- Orient UNFPA’s SRH and GBV personnel and implementing partners on MHPSS related opportunities and concerns;
- Support the GBV Sub-Sector in strengthening the capacity of the GBV partners, and GBV service providers, to deliver services in compliance with IASC Guidelines for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, GBV Minimum Standards, and draft Guidance to support MHPSS wellbeing of SRH and GBV Service Users
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Master’s degree with specialization in psychology, mental health or related areas.
- At least 5 years of specialized experience in psychosocial support interventions particularly as it relates to GBV;
- Experience in GBV/MHPSS at an international level in a humanitarian context.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings and MHPSS Minimum Service Package MSP;
- Demonstrated experience in implementing community-based scalable MHPSS interventions in the prevention and promotion of affected community’s well-being is highly desirable;
- Demonstrated experience in training, supervision, and mentoring of non-professional counseling/lay staff;
- Ability to work within a team structure, maintain flexibility, and cope with a stressful workload;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within different cultural environments and evolving political environments;
- Proficiency in English is required and working knowledge of another language is strongly preferred.
How You’ll Be Assessed?
- Resume & Application Review: Our vetting committee will examine your resume, application, and supporting paragraph to determine if your experience and skills align with UNFPA’s surge needs.
- Technical & Soft Skills Assessment: You may be asked to complete a technical assessment tailored to MHPSS area of expertise to evaluate your knowledge and problem-solving abilities. You may also have to answer questions relating to soft skills.
- Video Interview: Candidates may be invited to a recorded video interview where you’ll answer questions covering both technical and behavioral aspects relevant to humanitarian work.
- Reference Checks: As a final step, we may request your professional references to gain further insights into your work ethic, performance under pressure, and suitability for surge deployments.
We look at the whole picture, considering your technical and soft skills, adaptability, commitment to UNFPA’s mission, and potential to successfully contribute in crisis settings.
Selected candidates will have to complete online training and they will be added to UNFPA’s Surge Response Roster and contacted for any opportunities that meet their profile.
