Salary Range: ($64,832.19-$81, 152.39) as determined by the Faculty Review Committee upon review of academic and professional credentials of the finalist with summer instruction as Overload at $3100/3 credit course)OVERVIEW OF THE UNIVERSITY

Regardless of the title, every employee supports WAU’s vision of producing graduates who bring moral leadership and competence to their communities.Scope of Responsibilities:The primary role of the Undergraduate Nursing Academic Coach and Remediation Specialist is to assist students to achieve high outcomes in academic performance, licensure pass rates, and student satisfaction with course, instructors, program, and the campus in the undergraduate nursing program. The academic coach engages students in early identification, intervention, remediation and other evidenced based coaching strategies for improved retention, progression, academic success, and NCLEX success. The academic coach assists the student in the utilization of structured resources and processes.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meets with all students to conduct gap analysis for the purpose of creating a success plan, monitoring student progress, and documenting coaching activities and progress.
  • Monitors student performance daily and maintains regular communication with students as well as their faculty member and refers the student to other academic or psychosocial resources as deemed appropriate.
  • Maintains partial nursing faculty teaching assignment in the coach’s area of expertise as assigned.
  • Provides orientation and ongoing support for other nursing faculty in the use of student success tools and strategies in the classroom, clinical and laboratory setting.
  • Participate on nursing program and University committees.
  • Serve as an advisor and counselor to nursing students.
  • Participate in nursing program development, implementation, revision, and evaluation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:

  • MSN degree required.
  • Evidence of teaching experience at the university level in a specialty area.
  • Minimum of two years clinical experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current unexpired license to practice nursing in the State of Maryland.
  • Recent clinical experience necessary to function effectively and safely in the area of assigned responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate with and teach a diverse population of students.
  • Ability to meet health credentials requirement if teaching in clinical settings.
  • Possession of a valid RN license in the state of Maryland or nursing licensure compact state.
  • Excellent written, oral, and teaching skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department of Nursing’s mission, philosophy, goals, and student outcomes.

Must demonstrate a commitment to student success, and strong interpersonal, advising, public speaking, and data management skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills and the ability to interact well with students, faculty and administration.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports directly to Director of Nursing.

  • May provide supervision to adjunct faculty, staff, and student professionals.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community.

  • Knowledge and use of computer and its applications.

  • Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
