Job Description

 

The CBME department has an exciting new opportunity that will allow students to work closely with Research Scientist Andrew D’Amico, Dr. Jie Gao, and Dr. Lance Lobban to design and construct a steam condenser system for the Unit Operations laboratory course.

 

This position will focus on the design and physical construction of system—using fittings to assemble parts of the system while becoming deeply familiar with types of fittings, connectors, and tubing/piping. Candidates will need to be familiar with designing mechanical components and using CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inventor, or OnShape).

 

This position may also provide exposure to additional aspects of the system design process, such as:

  • Selecting components and obtaining quotes from suitable vendors while becoming deeply familiar with how process equipment is specified.
  • Developing 3D models of components and the system using computer (CAD) software.
  • Data acquisition and control with NI LabVIEW, a unique programming language used to control process equipment through a graphical interface.

 

Job Requirements

 

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2022 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Fall 2022 class schedule.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate would have some background in fluid transport, heat transport, mechanical fabrication, mechanical design, and computer programming. However, anyone interested is strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates will need to be able to design mechanical components and implement designs in CAD software.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Candidates will need to be able to independently lift 25 lbs.
