Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Globally, UN Women’s Flagship Programme Initiative Making Every Woman and Girl Count, known as Women Count, supports Member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda by advancing a transformative shift in the production, availability, accessibility and use of quality gender data and statistics. The programme aims to ensure that data on key aspects of gender equality and women’s empowerment are regularly produced, widely accessible and effectively used to inform policies, programmes, budgets and accountability frameworks. Women Count has delivered significant results during its first two phases by supporting national statistical systems, strengthening institutional capacities, improving the availability of gender statistics and promoting their use in decision making. Women Count Phase III, covering the period 2026 to 2029, builds on these achievements by focusing on the full gender statistics ecosystem, from the enabling policy and institutional environment to data production, dissemination, accessibility and use. It places strong emphasis on addressing data gaps, strengthening technical capacities, improving coordination between data producers and users, and ensuring that gender statistics are more regular, comparable, policy relevant and accessible through knowledge products, data platforms, dashboards and user-friendly communication. In Jordan, Women Count is an initiative meant to strengthen the capacity of the Government and Non-State Actors to produce and use gender data and statistics to inform and monitor the implementation of Jordan’s gender-related commitments in the 2030 Agenda.
Against this background, UN Women seeks to recruit a Programme Specialist to implement Jordan Women Count and provide programme, coordination, administrative and operational support to the broader Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Portfolio.
