COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • One (1) year of related healthcare experience demonstrating competencies to perform essential duties of the position.
  •  High school graduate or equivalent, with some college preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
  • This position subject to State Regulations regarding certification and or licensure
  • CPR Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities JOB REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Valid Driver’s License is required.  Must be able to work mandatory overtime and will not be able to leave until the next shift relief arrives or other coverage can be arranged and to stay in cases of an emergency. Able to work different shifts as needed. As needed, the job may require emergency shift changes (day, evening, and nights) and location changes within a region and to work weekends and holidays as per the labor management agreement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting and/or standing is required. Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls. Hearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required, required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions and on call responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Medical Technician must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
Special Conditions
  • Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
  • Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Violations of NJ Department of Corrections and/or being banned by the Department of Corrections to work at a NJ Department of Corrections’ facility are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
