| Posting Summary | Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part-time Staff Nurse for the Juvenile Justice Commission, located in Bordentown, New Jersey. Utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems. Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Performs assessments of resident-patient in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, health care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary. * Communicates information in an accurate, concise and timely manner. * Adheres to institution and medical unit infection control policies. * Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills. * Participates in in-services, meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor. |

| COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). | Physical Demands and Work Environment | PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments, ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities , ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, manual dexterity and mobility for charting, hearing and sight are essential, ability to speak clearly is required, may be required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adolescents and adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening and assaultive behaviors. Handle emergency and crisis situations. Nurse must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, strains. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers. |
