The University is seeking to appoint well-qualified and versatile Hourly Paid Lecturers for the Secondary Physical Education and Dance PGCE.

The successful candidates will be supervising school placements and undertaking school visits in addition to some delivery on programmes at postgraduate. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the further development of the subject at Bishop Grosseteste University.

Please note, these are casual, hourly paid positions and we are advertising this position to create a pool of candidates. There is no guarantee of any hours.

Recruitment and appointment of Hourly Paid Lecturers is based on merit and equal employment opportunity principles, with all new Hourly Paid Lecturers being interviewed, either by phone, or in person. A candidate’s suitability is assessed against selection and appointments are offered subject to the candidate meeting the requirements of the role. As a minimum, an Hourly Paid Lecturer must have:

  • A right to work in the UK with no relevant work restrictions;
  • Relevant first degree and teaching qualifications (PGCE or equivalent);
  • Teaching experience;
  • Relevant and/or recent academic experience.

The University may appoint professional or industry experts, and where appropriate, academics from other institutions to deliver specific aspects of their teaching. A DBS check and verification of professional membership may also be required where necessary for the role.

Standard rates of pay from the 1st of August 2023 are as follows:

  • Standard Teaching Rate: £48.07 per hour 
  • Placement and Work-based Learning Rate: £37.95 per hour
  • Marking/Non-contact Rate: £24.03 per hour 
  • Instrumental Tuition Rate (Music Modules Only): £34.08
