Job Description Summary
The Head Coach, Men’s Volleyball is responsible for leading the coaching, management and coordination of the Men’s Volleyball program. The objectives are to provide opportunities for athletically talented volleyball players and develop them to their fullest potential as student-athletes. This position is responsible for assisting with the development of relationships with men’s volleyball alumni, donors, as well as the men’s volleyball community through community programming. This position requires that the incumbent have values consistent with the high standards of the Department and the University of British Columbia. In addition, this position will ensure compliance with the spirit and intent of CWUAA/USPORTS rules and regulations.
Organizational Status
Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Recreation, this position will be in support of and act in accordance with the strategic direction and initiatives of the Department, and The University of British Columbia as it relates to personal and professional conduct, fundraising, general promotions, community involvement, budget management and appropriate administrative responsibilities. There is interaction between team members, coaching and Athletic Department staff as well as with the staff of CWUAA/USPORTS member Institutions and game officials. There is also communication with high school and club coaches, recruits and parents as well as possible interaction with CCAA, NCAA, NAIA coaches/athletics departments, Provincial and/or National Sport Organizations. Internally, the coach interacts with a variety of departments, faculties and services including Housing, Student Financial Awards and Assistance, Library, Student Services, Enrolment Services, Student Recruitment and Advising, etc.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
This is a high-profile position with the potential to positively or negatively impact the reputation of the Heat Athletics program, and the University in general. The incumbent must ensure that their conduct always reflects positively on the University of British Columbia and Heat Athletics.
The incumbent must exercise sound judgment based upon a thorough knowledge of procedures, guidelines, regulations and behavioural expectations. Actions and decisions are critical in ensuring the operational and reputational health of the team and the Athletics Department. Errors in judgment may cause financial hardship, missed opportunities, and/or reputational damage to the Department and the University. Work is reviewed in terms of fulfillment of mandates and achievement of program goals.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Director of Athletics and Recreation. The Director gives guidance and direction to the position, but the execution of responsibilities is solely that of the incumbent. The incumbent is expected to work independently as well as with other A&R Department staff in a collaborative and professional environment.
Supervision Given
The coach is in charge of, responsible for, and supervises their student-athletes, assistant coaches and student representatives of the Athletics Department who are members of the program at all Canada West / USPORTS athletic events and all team functions, whether hosted by UBC Okanagan, member Institutions or other organizations.
