Tutor/Teacher (Math/Science), Upward Bound/Open Doors

Job Description:
The Academic Year Math/Science Tutor is directly responsible to the Upward Bound and Open Doors Academic Advisors and is a part-time, temporary employee. Tutors are paid on an hourly basis to provide academic assistance to middle and high school-age participants to help them develop the academic and motivational skills needed to become self-confident and independent learners. Tutors play key roles in the entire process, and their competency, reliability and integrity are essential to the success of both programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Tutors must be available to work Monday through Thursday evenings from 4-7 pm all days Lawton Public Schools are in session and on designated Saturdays from 9am-1pm.
Education:
- Demonstrated success in a post-secondary educational institution
Professional Skills and Knowledge:
- Academic expertise in the subject of math/science
- Experience with and knowledge of high school students
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Ability to accurately complete tutoring and timesheet records
Personal Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, and Upward Bound staff
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience with, or participation in, TRiO programs
- Preference is given to those who have succeeded in overcoming a disadvantaged background similar to program participants
SALARY RANGE:
13.50/hour
