Join the Department of Mathematics and Statistics as a tutor or grader. Tutors will work in the Math Lab or as a one-on-one or an online tutor assisting students who request help with their math or statistics course. Graders will work directly with a faculty member to assist them with grading work from students. Specific training, including FERPA, is required for all tutors and graders. Tutors and graders need an A or B grade in Differential and Integral Calculus Calculus 1, 2 and 3. Graders need an A or B grade in the course they are grading for, or in an appropriate higher level course.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Tutors: Ability to explain math problems to others. Ability to work with remote students through online collaboration tools. Ability to set up/ modify appointments using our online tracking system.
Graders: Ability to write out mathematical solutions. Ability to work with faculty members to provide feedback to students. Ability to return graded homework to the instructor in a timely manner.
Typical Experience:
For tutors, some tutoring or mentoring experience is preferred. Course work in statistics and upper level math, and experience with computer based math programs is preferred. Tutors and graders needs an A or B grade in Differential and Integral Calculus or have scored at least a 4 on the AP Calculus exams Calculus 1, 2 and 3. Graders need an A or B grade in the course they are grading for, or in an appropriate higher level course.

Salary Information:
Preference will be given to students who have successfully completed Differential Equations Math 302 or another higher level math course for both the tutor and grader positions. This is a Student Assistant 2 position, wages begin at $11.34/hour, DOE. Work time is from 5 hours and up to 20 hours per week, up to 40 hours per pay-period (bi-weekly).
Special Instructions to Applicants:
Please attach a copy of your transcript showing completion of Differential and Integral Calculus or completion of the AP calculus AB or BC exam with a score of 4 or higher. An unofficial copy is acceptable. Along with your resume, please attach your work availability for the semester in which you are applying to work. All student tutors and graders will be required to use their UAF email address for contact with their supervisor.
