Work Schedule 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday. Some evening and weekend hours required to support special events.
Primary Purpose of Position Direct day-to-day management and supervision of all transportation-related areas of the department including: Campus Transit, Campus Para-Transit, Car-Sharing Program, Bike-Sharing Program, Bike Lockers, Dept Fleet Management, and Special Event Transportation. Assumes the duties of the Assistant Director – Transportation of PaTS in their absence.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties Direct day-to-day management and supervision of all transportation-related areas of the department including: campus transit, campus paratransit, special event & chartered transportation, car-sharing, bike-sharing, bike lockers, vehicle fleet management, vehicle and bus shelter advertising. Assumes the duties of the Assistant Director – Transportation of PaTS in their absence.
The incumbent will manage a team of employees – one first shift supervisor, one evening/night shift supervisors, five full time drivers operating the para-transit service and approximately 15-20 part-time, temporary and student employees.
Other Work Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day operations of Niner Transit campus transit service
• Manage day-to-day operations of Niner Paratransit service
• Manage day-to-day operations related to car sharing, bike sharing, scooter sharing, and bike locker services
• Works with campus bicycle organizations to assist with the coordination of bike racks on campus to encourage alternative forms of transportation
• Oversee campus transit operations and chartered transportation for campus departments and organizations, including scheduling and execution of trips
• Responsible for representing the department at new student orientation (SOAR), informing groups of parking and transportation options on campus
• Work to promote an environmentally sustainable operation wherever possible
• Primary point of contact for hiring and training staff
• Manage interior bus advertising program, scheduling ads and coordinating the timely installation and removal of ads with third-party transit providers. Ensures ads get back to customers once the posting period has expired.
• Track and maintain vehicle and equipment key inventory for unit
• Attend various meetings on and off campus, representing the department in a professional manner and taking accurate notes for team discussion and planning
• Responding to general inquiries in a timely, customer-friendly, and professional manner
• Assist department management with various reports and projects as needed.
• Manage the unit’s employee training program
• Plan and oversee the annual transportation fair
• Must be available after-hours and on weekends to receive and address emergency calls
• Plan and supervise transportation-related services for larger campus events such as football games and Commencement ceremonies.
• Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Transportation or their designee
• Ability to work independently and in a busy environment while portraying a professional demeanor.
• Ability to make sound decisions in pressured situations.
• Must be able to work in a team environment with multiple applications and responsibilities.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and address customer inquiries in a professional manner.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class-B (or A) w/Passenger Endorsement.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education • Graduation from a four-year college or university and at least three years of transportation program administration experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, including supervisory.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
• Proficiency with Google products (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc.)
• Degree in Transportation and Logistics preferred.
• Experience in campus transit is strongly desired.
• Knowledge of ADA regulations desired.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class-B (or A) w/Passenger Endorsement.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff
Necessary Licenses or Certifications Valid, state-issued commercial driver license class A or B with P endorsement
