We are looking for a Training Specialist to join the Community Information Now team at the UTHealth School of Public Health in San Antonio, TX 78229. In this position, you would plan, develop, coordinate, publicize, and implement a variety of training courses and programs focused on helping community members use online data tools, and use it to improve community conditions. This is a hybrid position, with one or two days per week in the office, and the rest will be working remotely.

Position Summary:
Plans, develop, coordinates, publicizes, and implements various training courses and programs for the Community Information Now (CI: Now) project in San Antonio.
CI: Now is a nonprofit local data and information intermediary that seeks to provide the data for “data-driven community change.” CI: Now, data-related functions are contracted to UTHealth. This position is part of a small team at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in San Antonio, CI: Now’s a longtime academic partner and institutional home.
The CI: Now team works closely with a wide array of local nonprofits, public agencies, funders, and collaboratives and is firmly positioned to assist local changemakers in making better decisions and taking more effective action by providing timely, neutral, valuable data.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Researches existing data literacy training models and curricula; adapts existing models and curricula for use in San Antonio.
- Develops new training, help guides, tip sheets, and tutorial videos for CI: Now’s online data tools; modify offerings based on training participant feedback.
- Develops and maintains a catalog of virtual and in-person training opportunities.
- Organizes and delivers virtual and some in-person training.
- Seeks community partnership opportunities to host training collaboratively
- Conducts outreach (currently virtual) to ensure people know about training opportunities.
- Responds to requests for help with the data platform.
- Logs platform bugs and user requests for additional features or data.

Certification/Skills:
Preferred:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid knowledge of MS Office and Google Workspace
- Written and verbal fluency in Spanish
- Basic data literacy
- Experience with finding and using local online data
- The ideal candidate is collaborative, committed to equity, interested in local data, quick to learn new technology, and enjoys working with people. They are flexible, attentive to detail, and comfortable with a wide range of technology.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or experience instead of education.
Minimum Experience:
Three (3) years of related experience.
Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount constantly to move objects. Security Sensitive: This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
