- Serves as a scientist in toxicological and regulatory health sciences for the agency as it applies to scientific regulation and scientific policy.
- Extends and modifies approaches, precedents and methods to solve difficult scientific and regulatory programs.
- Provides recommendations on the planning, design, implementation, and analysis of regulatory science programs, including rulemaking and guidance development.
- Provides assistance to ensure the scientific and regulatory programs and projects accomplish their goals and have proper planning, monitoring, and controlling for efficient and successful initiation, execution, and closing.
- Evaluates methodology of past and proposed regulatory program options for achieving Agency public health goals.
- Provides toxicology and regulatory supports to subject matter experts.
- Consults with scientific subject matter experts such as chemists, epidemiologists, medical professionals, and other public health experts concerning ongoing and established scientific programs, studies, or other projects.
- Collates and synthesizes scientific information from other subject matter experts in support of the development of programs, processes, policies, and regulations.
- Participates in the development and implementation of programs; develops preliminary operating criteria and procedures, policy issuances, standards, and protocols to be followed.
Salary:
- $74,950 – $116,788 per year
Qualifications:
The position of Toxicologist falls under the 0415 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-11/12, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 11/07/2022.
Basic Requirement:
- Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-11: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent band level of responsibility in the Federal service which includes experience conducting toxicological research of regulated products such as chemicals, drugs, or tobacco; reviewing and interpreting toxicological studies, data, applications and/or reports; preparing toxicology or policy driven reports; -OR-
Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field related to the position to be filled; -OR-
Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education in a field related to the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
GS-12: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent band level of responsibility in the Federal service which includes experience conducting toxicological research of regulated products such as chemicals, drugs, or tobacco; reviewing and interpreting toxicological studies, data, applications and/or reports; preparing toxicology or policy driven reports; developing or recommending methods to access the toxicity of these products.
