Acadia University

Faculty of Arts
Theatre Instructor & Technical Director
Contractually Limited Term – 5 Months
Department of English & Theatre
Position #: 10418

Acadia University acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which the Mi’kmaq, Wəlastəkwiyik, and Peskotomuhkatiyik Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726. These treaties did not imply or affirm the surrender or transfer of land to the British but recognized Mi’kmaq title and set the rules for what was to be a long-standing relationship between nations. Acknowledging the land that we are on means that we are working towards decolonization across campus.

The Department of English and Theatre at Acadia University invites applications for a 5-month contractually-limited-term appointment as Instructor to begin 1 August 2024.

The successful candidate will teach the first term of THEA 2823, Introduction to Production 1. This course introduces students to basic production elements and procedures, including theatre forms and stage management, and two of the following: sets, scenic painting, properties, lighting, sound, and costumes. The successful candidate may teach any two of these, though proficiency with sets is preferred.

Responsibilities as Technical Director entail supervising and supporting all areas of production for the fall show. Specific tasks include purchasing show materials and tracking expenses; appointing design professionals if authorized; recommending students for appointments to technical areas; supervising student crew heads; guiding and assessing students in a lively, learn-on-the-job environment.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants will hold a Master’s degree or equivalent education and work experience. Experience working with young people in a post-secondary educational environment an asset.

• position number, in the subject line of the submission email
