The Faculty of Education at the University of Regina, in collaboration with the Gabriel Dumont Institute—its partner for more than 40 years—invites applications for the position of Chair in Métis/Michif Education / ECS Instructor II, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Located within the Faculty of Education, this full-time, three-year term appointment will support the teaching and service priorities of the Faculty while advancing capacity in Métis/Michif education in the Province; playing a key role in strengthening connections between the University of Regina and the educational needs and priorities of the Métis/Michif peoples of Saskatchewan.
The University of Regina is situated on Treaty 4 lands with a presence in Treaty 6. These are the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. With a population of over 230,000 people, Regina is home to diverse cultural, entertainment and recreational opportunities, offering big city amenities with a small-town feel. The University of Regina’s main campus is located in the beautiful Wascana Centre, one of the largest urban parks in North America, and is just minutes away from Wascana Lake and hiking trails.

Duties: The Gabriel Dumont Chair in Métis/Michif Education/ECS Instructor II will be responsible for: teaching multiple undergraduate classes for the Faculty of Education in Core Studies and one course with SUNTEP Regina annually; assuming an active role in committee work, collegial governance and contributing to the elementary/secondary program areas; and importantly, building relations with Métis/Michif communities and capacity for knowledge-keeping, language and cultural revitalization through formal and informal education systems.
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree, with a clearly articulated and active involvement in Métis/Michif community and education. Teaching experience in both K-12 environments and university settings is an asset, but not a requirement. Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Métis/Michif and provide substantiation consistent with the University of Regina Indigenous Citizenship and Substantiation Protocol (https://www.uregina.ca/indigenous-engagement/assets/documents/indig_citizen_mem_sub_doc.pdf).
