Offer DescriptionThe Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure track position in research and teaching according to the Austrian Universities Act 2002 and the Austrian Salaried Employees Act, as an Assistant Professor in combination with a qualification agreement (according to § 27 of the collective bargaining agreement for universities).Responsibilities:
- Relevant habilitation within the contractually agreed period (maximum four years) or, in particularly justified exceptions, other qualification goals agreed upon;
- independent academic research and teaching; • academic support of research and teaching as well as assistance in administrational tasks in the area of media structure and platform research;
- independent teaching to the extent of four weekly semester hours (after reaching the qualification goals, eight weekly semester hours).
- The area of responsibilities includes work on media structure research, in particular Austrian, European and global communication policy and internet governance (traditional mass media, digital platforms, alternative commons-based media and platforms) in a historical and geopolitical context. Experience in application and management of larger third-party funded projects, preferably EU research projects, is welcome.

- Completed doctoral degree/PhD in communication studies and an at least partially published doctoral thesis;
- Academic reputation proven by relevant publications and lectures; multilingualism in teaching and research (German and English skills are required, other language skills are welcome);
- external academic experience, at least for a year and if possible abroad (“out of PLUS”). Additional qualifications:
- University experience; • a clear concept of the own future research profile;
- experience in organising academic conferences; digital skills in data management and with data visualisation. Required personal qualities: • Enthusiasm for the subject area of media structures, democracy, media and platform policy/ economics;
- experience in supervising students and junior academic staff;
- good communication and teamwork skills; ability to work under pressure; flexibility;
- enjoys knowledge transfer;
- strong social skills, especially regarding student support;
- ability to work in a goal-driven, effective and solution-oriented manner.

If the qualification agreement is not concluded at the start of the employment, the salary group will be B1 according to § 49 sec 3b of the collective bargaining agreement for universities until the agreement is concluded.
