Tenure-Track Assistant Professor – Department of French

The Department of French at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in French Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2025, or a mutually acceptable date thereafter. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The Department of French offers undergraduate programs in language, linguistics and literature. Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. in French or a closely related discipline, and clear evidence of strong research ability, as the successful candidate will be expected to apply to external funding programs. UNB Fredericton has a strong commitment to teaching, so demonstrated excellence in teaching will be essential. Responsibilities will include teaching, research, and academic service.
We seek a candidate with a background in francophone literature of Canada with specific expertise in at least two of the following areas: Quebec literature, Francophone literature of Canada outside Quebec, Francophone Indigenous literature, post-colonialism, feminist literature, environmental literature, BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ literature. This position is interdisciplinary, illuminating the intersections of minority language and culture. The disciplinary scope of the position is not limited to a specific period and may bridge the gap between the present and its historical, social, and geo-political contexts. By its nature, it is far-ranging and inclusive, touching on the societal challenge of hierarchies, the literary treatment of the environment, the history of New France, and/or cultures in contact.

The salary range for this position is defined in the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) 2022-2025 Collective Agreement section 36B.
